NATCHEZ — The Loyd Star Hornets and Lady Hornets were victorious Monday night in junior high basketball action as they swept the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets surfed the Lady Green Wave to claim a 31-12 victory.

Malori Cade sparked the Lady Hornets with nine points. Karly Beth Wallace chipped in with five points. Whitney Watts, Ta’Mara Townsend and Taylor Smith contributed four points each.

Anna Kat McDonoughn and Haley Ellis were the top scorers for the Lady Green Wave with four points apiece.

In the boys’ contest, the Hornets knocked off Cathedral 34-27.

Tanner Watts pumped in a game-high 13 points to lead Loyd Star. Stephen Mills contributed 11 points. Reese Dehart and Roberto Galindo chipped in four points apiece. Thomas Kelly had two points.

Chase Kaiser directed Cathedral’s offense with eight points. Kendal Washington scored four points.

Loyd Star junior high action continues Friday as they host the Enterprise Yellow Jackets for four games. Seventh grade action begins at 4 p.m., followed by the junior high games at 6 p.m.
