West Lincoln sweeps Loyd Star in junior high action

A pair of Lincoln County rivals met on the hardwood Monday night at Jack Case Gymnasium for junior high basketball action. West Lincoln’s teams held serve at home and swept Loyd Star.

In junior high girls’ action, the Lady Bears never looked back on the way to a 28-7 win. Bailey Wilson led West Lincoln with 10 points, while Julianna Crosby provided nine points. Loyd Star was led by Malori Cade’s five-point night.

In junior high boys’ action, West Lincoln survived a scare and prevailed in overtime 29-27. Karlton Byrd was the high man for the Bears with 18 points. Tanner Watts directed the Hornets with nine points.

The seventh grade Lady Bears roared to a 17-7 win over the Lady Hornets. Christiana Freeman and Jena Hughes led West Lincoln with four points each. Marleigh Bullock was the leading scorer for Loyd Star with five points.

In sevent grade boys’ action, the Bears cruised to a 26-11 win. Jeff Carroll led West Lincoln with 14 points, while Terrill Lenoir added six points. Loyd Star was directed by Thomas Kelly’s nine-point night.

West Lincoln’s junior high teams are off now until after the Thanksgiving break. The Bears and Lady Bears will resume play Nov. 30 in the Lincoln County Junior High Tournament at Bogue Chitto.
