Jackson State beats Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG (AP) – Javeres Brent hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to help Jackson State beat Southern Miss 78-60 Tuesday night.
Chase Franklin made 3 of 4 from 3-point range and finished with 17 points and Paris Collins scored 15 for Jackson State (1-1). Raeford Worsham added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jackson State opened the game with a 14-3 run that was capped by back-to-back 3’s from Brent. Rahemm Watts hit a jumper to pull Southern Miss within 16-7, but Brent hit another 3-pointer to start a 7-0 run that ended with the Tigers leading 23-7.
Southern Miss trailed by at least nine the rest of the way.
Jackson State made 30 of 57 (53 percent), including 11 of 25 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were just 4-of-16 shooting from behind the arc.
Watts led Southern Miss (0-2) with 13 points.
