BC wins; Loyd Star, West Lincoln split in junior high tournament

The Lincoln County Junior High Basketball Tournament got underway Monday night at Bogue Chitto. West Lincoln’s teams earned a split, with the boys’ team advancing to the finals next week.
In girls’ action, the Lady Hornets from Loyd Star overcame an 11-10 halftime deficit to defeat West Lincoln 30-20.
Taylor Smith was the leading scorer for the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Ta’Mara Townsend scored seven points. Malori Cade netted six points. Whitney Watts had four points and Carly Beth Wallace scored three points.
Christiana Freeman led the Lady Bears with nine points. Julianna Crosby chipped in four points. Alesha Chism had three points. Gracie Waren and Bailey Wilson had two points each.
In boys’ action, the Bears from West Lincoln jumped out to a 25-10 advantage at halftime and cruised to a 47-25 win over Loyd Star.
Michael Brothern led West Lincoln with 21 points, while Keshon Byrd added 10 points and Karlton Byrd had seven points.
Tanner Watts led the Hornets with six points. Thomas Kelly and Stephen Mills netted five points each. Reese Dehart and Peyton Morse scored four points apiece.
In other junior high games from Monday’s tournament, the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats knocked off Enterprise 34-20. In the nightcap, the Bobcats defeated the Yellowjackets 46-41.
The conclusion of this year’s tournament will be Monday at Bogue Chitto. In the consolation games, the Lady Bears will face Enterprise, and the Hornets will battle the Yellowjackets. In the championship games, the Lady Bobcats will battle Loyd Star, while the Bobcats will face West Lincoln.
