A Bogue Chitto man was shot by Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies Thursday after reportedly firing at them while they attempted to serve a warrant, Sheriff Steve Rushing said.

Rushing said the man, who has not been identified, was hit in the arm during the incident at 421 River Road Drive. He was transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center at about 2:20 p.m. No officers were hurt.

Rushing said the suspect reportedly fired a rifle at officers after they made initial contact with him.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol also responded to the scene, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will handle the case.

According to tax office records, 421 River Road Drive is owned by Raymond Fairchild.

There were reports of a school being placed on lockdown due to the shooting, but according to Bogue Chitto and Loyd Star school officials, that did not happen.
