Wesson’s soccer splits with Loyd Star

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras and the Loyd Star Lady Hornets captured a split in Friday varsity doubleheader high school soccer action.

In the girls contest, the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Cobras 2-0.

Shelby Smith and Madisyn Brister powered the Lady Hornets with one goal each. Shelby Richardson and Mikayla Warren finished with eight steals apiece. Madison finished with seven steals. Polly Patterson finished with four saves as Loyd Star’s goalie.

Cheyenne Gladden directed the Lady Cobras with six steals, Amber Brinson, Kim San and Brooke Jones provided five steals apiece. Harmoni Ashley had 10 saves as Wesson’s goalie.

In boys’ action, Wesson blanked Loyd Star 4-0.

Travis Smith, Steven Dennis, Dylan Ingle and Kelvin Casanova paced the Cobras with a goal each. Marcus Jones and Ingle contributed eight steals each. Francisco Hernandez, Dennis and Casanova had six steals apiece. Preston Middleton had 10 saves in the win as Wesson’s goalie.

Dylan Smith directed the Hornets’ soccer team with 12 steals. Brantley Brister and Lane Rogers contributed 10 steals each. Bailey Smith had eight steals. Payne Walker finished with 16 saves as Loyd Star’s goalie.

In JV action, Wesson’s JV girls won 2-0 and Wesson’s JV boys won 5-0.
