A single-car accident claimed the life of a 27-year-old Brookhaven woman early Thursday morning.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 2:40 a.m. about an accident on Mallalieu Drive, LCSO Chief Deputy Johnny Hall Jr. said.

Deputy Coroner John Riggs confirmed the driver was Hannah Smith, whose 2007 GMC pick-up truck ran off the road and hit a tree.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and is under investigation, said Hall.
