BA soccer upsets Laurel Christian

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars secured a big 2-1 upset over the Laurel Christian Lions Thursday night in soccer action.
The Cougars battled the division-leading Lions all game long. Laurel Christian went into halftime leading 1-0.
In the second half, the score remained the same until the last five minutes when forward Grayson Devito scored off an assist from Nic Cizner to get the Cougars on the board. BA quickly added another goal with two minutes left when Conner Griffin scored the decisive goal.
The Cougars’ defense was clearly the difference in the game as goalie JT Cline made several clutch saves to hold the high-scoring Laurel Christian offense to one goal. He was supported by defenders Zach Carr, Trent Cannon, Grant James and Hunter Sasser.
The win moves BA’s record to 5-4 and 2-3 in district play. BA’s next game is at home Monday at 5 p.m. against Parklane Academy.
In the junior varsity game, BA and Laurel Christian finished in a 1-1 tie. Keegan Smith scored the lone goal off of an assist from Sonny Singh for the Brookhaven Academy Cougars.
