The head of school at Brookhaven Academy has decided to step down after 23 years.

Brookhaven Academy Educational Foundation Board of Trustees President Josh Smith said it was Julie Wright’s decision and not an action of the board. Wright’s resignation on Thursday was effective immediately, which Smith said is typical, adding they still have a good working relationship and are talking with Wright daily as they make the transition.

“Mrs. Wright’s 23 years of dedication to this school can never be questioned,” Smith said. “Her accomplishments and improvements can be seen and felt throughout the school. She has truly left Brookhaven Academy a better place. We wish Mrs. Wright and her family the best with their future endeavors.”

At this time, school operations will remain the same, Smith said. The elementary and secondary administrators will continue handling the day-to-day affairs of their respective grades.

The board has begun the search for a new leader.

“The Board of Trustees is working tirelessly to ensure we continue with the mission statement of the school,” Smith said. “It’s the board’s intention to announce a new head of school as soon as possible.”
