FEMA building open as shelter under severe weather threats
City and county officials agreed on Wednesday to open the FEMA building in Brookhaven as a shelter, under severe weather threats.
The FEMA shelter, located at 1194 Beltline Drive, will open at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and will remain open until the severe weather has passed, Lincoln County Emergency Management Coordinator Clifford Galey said.
Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are expected throughout the region Wednesday through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms producing hail, damaging winds and some tornados are possible, NWS said.
