Lady Hornets beat Warren Central, Lawrence Co.

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets stormed back to edge the Warren Central Lady Vikings 4-3 in Game One Saturday in Brookhaven.

In Game Two, the Lady Hornets defeated the Lawrence County Lady Cougars 8-0.

The Lady Hornets (8-4, 3-1), coached by Jan Delaughter, will be in action Monday when they visit Bogue Chitto to take on the Lady Cats in a make-up contest. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Lady Hornets 4, Lady Vikings 3 

The Lady Vikings jumped on the Lady Hornets to grab a 3-0 lead in the first.

The Lady Hornets managed to get their offense going in the fourth – they plated three runs to tie the game at 3-3. Loyd Star scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Makenzie Smith collected the win on the rubber for the Lady Hornets with three strikeouts and no walks. Ali Gartman (1K, 0BB) started for Loyd Star.

Brooke Patterson took the loss for Warren Central with four strikeouts and three walks.

Megan Norton, Ali Gartman, Madison Jones and Makenzie Smith directed the Lady Hornets with a single each.

Anayah Fultz paced the Lady Vikings with a double and a single. Brooke Patterson, Kasy Cortenzie and Morgan Stewart had single each.

Lady Hornets 8, Lady Cougars 0 

Loyd Star and Lawrence County battled in a scoreless contest until the top of the fifth when the Lady Hornets exploded with a six-run surge to take the lead. Loyd Star added two more runs in the sixth to collect the win.

Makenzie Smith pitched the win for the Lady Hornets with one strikeout and two walks.

Jordan Harp suffered the setback on the rubber for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and one walk. Elizabeth Smith (0K, 0BB) also pitched in relief.

Megan Norton sparked the Lady Hornets with a grand slam homerun in the fifth inning. Shelby Smith and Johnna Norman fueled the flames with two singles each. Madison Jones and Meagan Poole hit safely.

Alyssa Lambert recorded the only hit for the Lady Cougars at the plate with a single.
