A Brandon man was airlifted to Jackson following a one-vehicle accident today on I-55 in Brookhaven.

Jason Bates, 18, was traveling north around mile marker 42 when he ran off the road to the left, striking a guard rail, said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.  The truck rolled several times, he said.

Bates was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center, then transported by an ambulance to University of Mississippi Medical Center with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Traffic was diverted for about an hour.
