Taliaferro was arrested without incident and transported to the McComb Police Department on the charges from the shoplifting incident, which occurred June 22.

Taliaferro is accused of stealing cigarettes valued at $1,200 from a Marathon service station at 203 Edgewood Drive.

The suspect was identified from security video at the store, Carter said.

Taliaferro was charged with felony shoplifting and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

It was when officers attempted to detain Taliaferro June 24, that he fled the scene as they approached his vehicle, said detective Sid Boyte.

During the chase, the suspect jumped from a moving vehicle to escape.

Taliaferro is also charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and felony fleeing, Boyte said.
