Ole Brook Festival a big success

The sun was shining, the weather was perfect and the 42nd annual Ole Brook Festival was a smashing success.

Crowds arrived early and stayed throughout the day to enjoy the festival in downtown Brookhaven.

Those who helped organize and plan the festival deserve a big “thank you” for putting in many hours of hard work. The crowds who turned out also deserve a “thank you.” Without visitors, there wouldn’t be much of a festival.

We also appreciate the many sponsors of the event. Their dedication to the success of Brookhaven and the festival is crucial. All in all, it was a great time for everyone.

Again, thanks to everyone for supporting the festival. And thanks to those who stopped by the newspaper’s booth to have their photos taken. Those photos are on our Facebook page and a few of them have been published in today’s edition.

Westbrook smart to show

‘The Hollars’

Though it took some convincing, we are grateful that the local movie theater was able to show the John Krasinski movie that was filmed right here in Brookhaven.

“The Hollars” is playing through Wednesday at the UA Westbrook 4. Theater manager Danny Bland said they may add showings if ticket sales are strong.

The movie, which also stars Anna Kendrick, Margo Martindale, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Richard Jenkins, is about a dysfunctional family dealing with a terminally ill mother. Krasinski, who is also a director and producer, plays the main character John, a graphic novelist living in Manhattan with his pregnant girlfriend (Kendrick) who is a pet-clothing designer.
