The West Lincoln Bears outscored the Wesson Cobras Tuesday night in a close 52-46 game.
“Both teams struggled with their shooting but we made more shots,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “It was a good competitive game against Wesson.”
The Bears led the entire game but the Cobras rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game with a three-point shot by JD Allen with 35 seconds left in the game.
The Bears won the game from the free-throw line by adding five points to end the game with a final score of 52-46.
On offense, the top scorer for West Lincoln was Donterrius Taylor with 20 points. Other shooters were Adam Martinez with 12 points and Le’Darrius Jones with 11 points. On defense, Chase Owen and Taylor both had nine rebounds and Martinez had eight rebounds. Jones and Martinez had three steals each.
“It just wasn’t our night,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “We couldn’t get anything going offensively and missed too many wide open shots and made some careless mistakes at the wrong times. I hope we can bounce back and have a better game Friday.”
Cobra JT Smith was the top scorer for Wesson with 13 points and Will Hulon and JD Allen followed with eight points each. Kenner Bizot was the top defender for Wesson with nine rebounds. Malik Clay had five rebounds and Will Hulon and Brian Thomas had four rebounds each. JT Smith, Shemar Dickerson, and Hulon had two steals each and Dickerson had one block.
West Lincoln will host Bogue Chitto today and Wesson will travel to Enterprise Friday. Games times are 6 for varsity girls and 7:30 for varsity boys.
Lady Bears 43
Lady Cobras 35
The West Lincoln Lady Bears took the win over the Lady Cobras from Wesson Tuesday night with a final score of 43-35.

The game started with the Lady Cobras taking an early lead but Lady Bear Meghan Gerald shot a three-pointer to tie the score. Brenn Bateman added two more but Lady Cobra Alaysha Vaughn tied the score with a shot to end the first quarter at 8-8.
In the second, West Lincoln jumped ahead with Gerald loading the scoreboard with eight points but Wesson’s Aurianna Vaughn and Alissa Coone closed the gap and the Lady Cobras trailed the Lady Bears by two going into half time with a score of 16-14.
After the half, both teams played hard defense by stealing the ball back and forth but the Lady Bears’ Skylar Hall added 10 points to increase the lead to 30-22 at the end of third. The game ended with a final score of 43-35.
For the Lady Bears, top scorers were Skylar Hall with 18 points, Meghan Gerald with 13 points and Demesha Deer with eight points. On defense, Hall had seven rebounds and four steals.
“Overall, the girls hustled well and moved the ball,” Wesson coach Candice McDuffey said. “Our defense and rebounding were good but we need to keep the momentum going into the fourth quarter to finish the game.”
