Wolves handle Delgado on road

The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves rebounded from their second loss of the season with a 36-point victory over the Delgado Community College Dolphins recently.

The win moves the Wolves to 4-2 on the year with just three games remaining in the fall portion of the 2016-2017 season. Co-Lin is back in action Monday, Nov. 28, as the Wolves travel to Mississippi Delta Community College to take on the Trojans at 8 p.m. Listen to the game live at colinathletics.com or at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Midway through the opening half of play the Wolves led by just five points over Delgado as action was back and forth. An 11-point run in the final five minutes of the half extended the Wolves’ lead to double digits and the team never looked back.

Head coach Kenny Bizot continued to push his team offensively to solidify the lead early in the second half. The Wolves managed to find the net in a variety of ways. Anthony Jones, a Wesson native, drove the ball to the rim with great success while Darrian Wilson, of Brookhaven, came off the bench and provided an outside threat from beyond the arc. The offensive performance left the Dolphins with little options as the Wolves quickly extended the lead in the second half leading to the win.

Jones led Co-Lin in the scoring column with 21 points and brought down seven rebounds. Wilson added another 20 points and five rebounds, as he was 4-for-5 from three-point range. Vincent Phillips scored from all parts of the floor as he accumulated 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Biscuit Floyd rounded out the Wolves leading scorers with 10 points and a team high seven assists.

Ray White led Delgado with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Kristen Russel added another eight points and four rebounds, while Bryant Leonhard finished with six points and six boards.

Co-Lin shot 44 percent (31-for-71) from the field, 43 percent (12-for-28) from three-point range, and 70 percent (14-for-20) from the foul line. Delgado finished the day shooting 31 percent (22-for-70) from the floor, 21 percent (5-for-24) from three-point range, and 50 percent (3-for-6) from the free throw line.

The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves moved to 4-1 on the year after a 51-21 victory over the Lady Dolphins Saturday in New Orleans. The 30-point win gives the Lady Wolves momentum heading into the final weeks of the fall portion of the 2016-2017 season. The Lady Wolves take the floor again Monday, Nov. 28, as they travel to Mississippi Delta. 

Action was slow in the early quarters of play on the campus of Delgado Community College as Co-Lin led 11-3 after 10 minutes of play. The second quarter resembled the first with both teams struggling to find the basket. Entering halftime, the Lady Wolves led by eight, 20-12.

Co-Lin strung together a quick 12-0 run to open the third quarter led by freshman guard Karry Callahan. The Lady Wolves continued to pour in the baskets late in the contest as their lead continued to build. Co-Lin never trailed throughout the game.

Kiera Robinson led the Lady Wolves on the stat sheet with 11 points and six rebounds. Tenazhia Hinkson came of the bench for Co-Lin and added 11 points of her own. Callahan finished the day with eight points and eight rebounds, while Brittany Rose finished with seven points and five assists.

Sierra Jackson led the Lady Dolphins with six points. Miantte Guidry led Delgado on the boards with nine total rebounds.

Co-Lin finished the day shooting 36 percent (20-for-55) from the field, 25 percent (4-for-16) from the three-point line, and 47 percent (7-for-15) from the free throw line. Delgado shot a dismal 17 percent (6-for-36) from the floor, 15 percent (2-for-13) from beyond the arc, and 64 percent (7-for-11) from the foul line.
