Lincoln County junior varsity tournament winners announced
The 2016 Lincoln County Junior High Basketball Tournament tipped off at Jack Case Gymnasium on the West Lincoln campus Monday night.
Winners from the first night of action included Loyd Star’s girls, Enterprise’s boys, and both the girls and boys teams from West Lincoln.
In the opening game, the Lady Hornets from Loyd Star rolled to a 31-11 win over Enterprise. Lily Bardwell and Aubrey Britt led the Lady Hornets with 11 points each. Natalie Harris led the Lady Jackets with three points.
In the boy’s contest between the two schools, Enterprise cruised to a 39-11 win over Loyd Star. Dylan Carter was the high man for the Jackets with 18 points, while Jay Jones added 13 points. Loyd Star was led by Eric Birch’s five-point effort.
West Lincoln’s girls and boys won a pair of games over Bogue Chitto in the nightcap.
The Lady Bears stretched a 12-2 halftime lead into a 21-8 win over the Lady Bobcats. Brittany Sturkey led West Lincoln with nine points, while Bogue Chitto had four players to score two points each.
After securing a 20-17 lead at halftime, the Bears held on for a 42-36 win over the Bobcats. Jeff Carroll provided 18 points for West Lincoln, while Enrico Price added 11 points. Bogue Chitto was led by William Allen’s 21-point night.
This year’s tournament will conclude on Monday at West Lincoln. The schedule will be as follows:
4 p.m.: Girls Consolation: Enterprise vs. Bogue Chitto
5 p.m.: Boys Consolation: Loyd Star vs. Bogue Chitto
6 p.m.: Girls Championship: Loyd Star vs. West Lincoln
7 p.m.: Boys Championship: Enterprise vs. West Lincoln
