Bogue Chitto picks up wins against West Marion

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats had a 20-point fourth quarter to push past the Trojans of West Marion and take home the victory 64-56 Tuesday. With the victory, Bogue Chitto moves to 2-9 on the season and extends their winning streak to two games.

The Trojans started the game off on an 11-4 run, but the Bobcats came back with a roar. Throughout the game, the largest lead the West Marion Trojans had was just five points. The Bobcats were able to take the lead several times throughout the first half, as they went into the locker room with a slim 32-31 lead.

As the Trojans held a 46-42 lead going into the fourth quarter, senior guard Henry Thomas scored 14 of the Bobcats 20 points in the fourth quarter to take the lead. Bogue Chitto would out-score the Trojans 20-10 in the quarter to take the 64-56 victory.

“The boys played hard tonight. Offensively we played together, and scored efficiently,” Bogue Chitto head coach Mark Pitts said. “Great win for us as a team. I am very proud of the boys, but now we got to get back to work to get better.”

Thomas led the team with 20 points for the game. Sophomore center Malik Richardson contributed with 18 points and sophomore forward Darius Porter added seven points as well.

Offensively for the Trojans, senior guards Adrian Miller and Braxton Smith both led the team with 16 points each. Junior guard Cyrus Thompson helped with scoring for the Trojans with 14 points on the night as well.

West Marion 37

The Lady Cats earned a victory over the West Marion Lady Trojans Tuesday night.

Bogue Chitto and West Marion went back and forth in the first quarter, but the Lady Bobcats would stretch out their lead starting in the second quarter.

The Lady Bobcat defense in the second quarter was the determining factor for the win. They outscored West Marion in the quarter, putting Bogue Chitto up 42-21 at halftime.

Bogue Chitto picked up where they left off in the third. The results of another dominating play was a 58-27 for the Lady Bobcats. It was the same story in the fourth quarter as Bogue Chitto outscored West Marion 18-10 to take a convincing 76-37 win.

“We started off a little on the slow side defensively,” Bogue Chitto head coach Christi Terrell said. “We picked up the pace and maintained a lead throughout the game. The girls played hard and I’m proud of them.”

Offensively for Bogue Chitto, senior Terrah Nelson led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds on the game. Sophomore Carly Leake contributed with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists as well. Senior Taneshia May contributed with eight points and nine rebounds as well.

Offensively for the West Marion Lady Trojans, sophomore Shania Jefferson had 15 points and freshman Hannah Miller contributed with nine points on the night.
