Letter to the Editor: Pearl Harbor funeral

Published 11:29 am Thursday, December 15, 2016

We want to recognize Mr. Ken Carraway, Bethany Carraway, Joseph Carraway, Wayne Kimble and other members of the Wesson Volunteer Fire Department for the superior job they did for the funeral of Fireman 1st Class Jim Johnston.

On the Monday before the funeral, Mr. Ken called us to see if they could use our flags that we put up each Memorial Day, Veterans Day and 4th of July. We have 250 flags. We spent part of Tuesday putting new flags on poles, so they would be nice for the funeral.

Tuesday night, Mr. Kimble came with the Mr. Ken’s son and daughter to get flags and put up throughout the town. We know this is not an easy job and each flag was put up with special care. What a wonderful and emotional site to see all the flags. After the funeral the whole fire department brought the over 100 flags back and put them in their proper place.
