Shooting may be over a beer, cigarettes

Brookhaven police are looking for a ‘person of interest’ in a shooting in the 600 block of South Second Street that allegedly occurred over a disagreement about a beer and cigarettes, authorities said.
Police were called to the house Tuesday shortly after 9:30 p.m. and found a 43-year-old male with a gunshot would to the back of his left kneecap, Police Capt. Clint Earls said.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and treated the victim, who refused to go to the hospital, Earls said.
Police collected evidence at the scene and took statements from witnesses. Based on the investigation, they have determined that Mark Anthony McCoy Jr., 28, is a person of interest in the case, he said.
McCoy’s last known address is Brookhaven.
