Shelby M. ‘Buddy’ Brister

Funeral services for Shelby M. “Buddy” Brister will Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Bogue Chitto Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto at 1 p.m. with burial at Bogue Chitto Cemetery. Bro. James Jackson, Bro. David Boyd and Bro. Joel Brister will officiate. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be today, Dec. 25, 2016, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bogue Chitto Baptist Church and will continue Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, from 11 a.m. until time of the service.

Mr. Brister, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb with his loving family by his side. He was born March 16, 1936 in Bogue Chitto to Malcolm A. and Ora Bowman Brister. He was a faithful member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church. He worked at Potter Company and Loves TV Service and owned and operated Buddy’s TV service for many years. He retired as a rural mail carrier from the US Postal Service, and in recent years operated a lawnmower and small engine repair service. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, woodworking, singing and playing his harmonica. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, June Brister Mullens and Geraldine Brister Wright; and a brother, Malcolm B. Brister.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Janice L. Hodges Brister; sons, Marshall Brister and wife Sheila of Gloster, and Joel Brister and wife Christy of Houston, Texas; daughters, Darlene Brister Butler and husband Kelly of Jackson, Louisiana, Sherry Brister Sellers and husband Barry of Bogue Chitto, and Charlotte Brister Boyd of McComb; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers are Steve Yawn, Charles Bond, Tommy Busby, Mark Gatlin, Sam Moore and John Hart.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Brister’s name may be made to the Dickerson Place, 491 Dickerson Lane SE, Brookhaven, MS 39601.
