Doll’s House collecting food to refill its shelves for the hungry

A staple in the community has been holding it together through the holidays, but now needs to replenish supplies for its next rounds of giving.

The Darlene Slater Rehabilitation Center for Women, more commonly known as the Doll’s House, provided more than 200 boxes of food to area residents at Thanksgiving with everything needed for a DIY turkey dinner — the bird, stuffing, veggies, cake mixes and pie fillings.

They’ve also helped those who are hungry through the winter holidays as well.

But now their cupboards are almost bare and the pantry is nearly empty, said Doll’s House Executive Director Stephanie Turner.

She has faith that the generosity of the community will once again shine on the rehabilitation center and they’ll see  their shelves full again.

The Doll’s House is a home for women in transition and participating in giveaways like at Thanksgiving allows them to give back to the community.

“They’re getting a chance to see this year what it is to give back, and they are giving a lot,” Turner said after the  food box distribution.
