BA fights hard in Oak Forest holiday tournament

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars participated in the Oak Forest Academy holiday tournament in Amite recently.

The Cougars defeated the Silliman Wildcats 58-38 and the Lady Cougars fell short to the host Lady Yellow Jackets from Oak Forest by a score of 48-42.

The Lady Cougars (10-6) trailed Oak forest by two points going into the fourth quarter of play Thursday afternoon, but couldn’t get any closer. The Lady Cougars were outscored 14-10 in the final frame and suffered a six-point loss to Oak Forest. Jana Case was one of three Lady Cougars scoring in double digits with 15 points. Kailyn Jordan added 13 points and Anna Michael Smith chipped in 10 points as well. Caylon Brabham led the Lady Jackets with a game-high 24 points.

BA boys 58, Silliman boys 38

After a slow first quarter of play, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars (13-2) poured it on in the final three quarters of play on their way to a convincing 20-point win. Ethan Nations led all scorers with a 25 points and nine rebounds. Dawson Flowers added 10 points for the Cougars and Dylan Winborne had nine points as well. Brice Carpenter led the Wildcats with 12 points.

BA splits in day two of Oak Forest holiday tournament

In day two of the Oak Forest Academy Holiday Tournament Friday, the Cougars fell short to the host Oak Forest Yellow Jackets by a score of 64-53 and the Lady Cougars defeated the Silliman Lady Wildcats 48-33.

The Lady Cougars (11-6) used a 14-5 scoring run in the second quarter to stretch their lead that Silliman could not overcome. The Lady Cougars would ultimately come out on top 48-33. Jana Case had a game-high 22 points and six rebounds to pace BA. Kailyn Jordan added 10 points and Alexis Byrd chipped in seven points, six boards and three steals. Ryleigh McManus led Silliman with 19 points.

Oak Forest boys 64, BA boys 53

The BA Cougars (13-3) had few answers for Oak Forest’s LaVell Scott who scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to the 64-53 win. BA had four players in double figures, led by Dawson Flowers with 15 points. Dylan Winborne had 11 points, Luke Jackson and Ethan Nations had 10 points each, rounding out the top scorers for the Cougars.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars pick up district play today as they travel to Natchez to take on the Adams County Christian School. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. starting with seventh-grade basketball.
