The Brookhaven School District, Lincoln County School District, Brookhaven Academy and Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven will dismiss early today in anticipation of hazardous road conditions later in the afternoon.

“We want to get the kids home safely,” Lincoln County Superintendent Mickey Myers said.

Brookhaven, Lincoln County and MSA will dismiss at 1 p.m. BA will dismiss at 1:30 p.m.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Lincoln County and the surrounding areas until midnight tonight.

A combination of sleet, snow and freezing rain will continue throughout the day. Early this evening a wintry mix will gradually transition to mostly sleet and then mostly snow ending around midnight.

Snow or sleet accumulations up to two inches are possible, which could lead to power outages.
