Lucy Marie Smith
A graveside service for Lucy Marie Smith, of Texas, formerly of Brookhaven, will be Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Dallas Fort Worth Cemetery. A memorial service will follow Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Brookdale Assisted Living in Grand Prairie, Texas. Jaynes Memorial Chapel Funeal Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, in Herndon, Virginia, while visiting her daughter’s family for the Christmas holidays. She was born Oct. 30, 1929, in Brookhaven, to Ernest V. Smith and Lillie Ford Smith. She was a long time resident of Irving, Texas, before moving to Brookdale Assisted Living in Grand Prairie, Texas. She attended Brookhaven Public Schools and was a member of the class of 1948. She was married to Paul T. Smith for 66 years before his death in March of 2014. In the 1950’s and early 60’s she was employed by Cooper-Bessemer. She worked for American Liberty Oil Company from 1966 to 2003, and became the executive administrative assistant to three generations of the Toddie Lee Wynn family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Donald E. Smith; sisters, Edith Smith, Eugenia Brogan, and Willene Smith.
Survivors are her daughter, Paula Smith-Cobbs and husband Stephen; grandson, Phillip Smith-Cobbs; brothers, Ford W. Smith (Carlene), of Cedar Hill, Texas and Bobby Smith, of Seaside, California; sisters, Audrey Nessing, of St. Louis, Missori, Ruth Owens, Janice Goza (Cletos), Patricia Case (Edwin), and Judy Costilow (Owen), all of Brookhaven.
