Funeral services for Betty Wright Boyles, of Brookhaven, are Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with burial at Lakewood South.

Visitation will be today, Jan. 17, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Boyles, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Silver Cross Nursing Home in Brookhaven.

She was born in Cascilla on July 28, 1928, and grew up in the Leverette area of Tallahatchie county. Her parents were Travis and Myrtle Crosthwait Wright.

While in high school Mrs. Boyles attended boarding school in Cleveland, Tennessee, but she returned home in order to graduate from Cascilla High School. She also attended Mississippi Delta Junior College in Moorhead. This is where she met her future husband, Marion Boyles.

After marriage, the couple moved to Starkville where Mr. Boyles completed his college degree at Mississippi State University. Mrs. Boyles received her degree in elementary education at Delta State University.

Most of Mrs. Boyles professional career was spent as a elementary school teacher, but at various time she would go on hiatus and try new adventures. She was a buyer in Ready to Wear for McRae’s department store and she also owned her own dress shop. She loved to travel to market. Her passions were clothes, gardening and decorating. She always enjoyed dressing in beautiful clothes and looking her best.

She moved from Charleston in 1965 to Jackson and later to Brandon in 1998. She loved her neighbors at The Terraces and always enjoyed their company. Her fabulous sense of humor and neverending storytelling was great entertainment to her neighbors.

She is a present member of Crossgates Baptist Church and until she moved to Brookhaven, she was a very active member of the OverComers Sunday school class. She missed her church and church friends very much.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband of 43 years, Sen. Marion Enoch “Peck” Boyles; and her four siblings, Eris Mae Wright Sharp, G. E. Wright, Claudine Wright Trim and June Wright Staten.

Survivors are her daughters, Barbara Boyles Sanders and Marion Kay Boyles Brister (Eddie) and her much loved son-in law, Eddie Brister; four grandsons, Christopher Brister (Jennifer), Patrick Brister (Jennifer), Bradford Brister (Olivia) and Blake Brister; five great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; a brother-in-law, Knoff Staten; and her first cousin, Dell Crosthwait Bullion.

Pallbearers will be Christopher, Patrick, Brad and Blake Brister and four nephews, Lannie Staten, Daryl Staten, George Trim and Ed Trim.

The family wishes to thank the personnel of Silver Cross who so lovingly cared for their mother. Many blessings for your kindness. Mrs. Boyles adored and loved her housekeeper of many years, Shirley Taylor. They were very close and devoted to each other.

Memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International and the Alzheimer’s Association.
