Brookhaven Academy falls to Central Hinds

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars were trying to avenge earlier season losses to Central Hinds Academy Saturday evening at John R. Gray Gymnasium. The Cougars dropped a difficult battle by a score of 48-42, but the Lady Cougars played a tough game on their way to a 53-39 win.

BA Cougars 42
In varsity boys’ action, the BA Cougars (15-6) were looking to bounce back from an earlier season loss to the senior-laden Central Hinds basketball team, but could not keep it up in the end during the fourth quarter to overtake the visiting Cougars. Luke Jackson led Brookhaven Academy with 10 points and three assists. Dawson Flowers and Dylan Winborne added nine points and eight points, respectively, to the BA scoring. Ronald Williams led Central Hinds in scoring with 14 points on the night.
BA Lady Cougars 53,
Central Hinds girls 39
The Lady Cougars (15-7) trailed by two points at halftime, but the second half was a different story as BA outscored the Lady Cougars of Central Hinds 22-13 in the fourth quarter to pull away and pick up the 53-39 win. Jana Case led all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Anna Michael Smith and Sissy Byrd each added 12 points to the BA total. Byrd also pulled down seven boards as well. Anastasia Crechelle led Central Hinds with 11 points on the night.

C Hinds JV boys 17
The BA JV boys came out hot and never let up with a convincing win over the visiting Cougars by a score of 44-17. Britton Nelson and Tyler Fortenberry led the way in scoring for BA with 10 points each. Piker Ratcliff and Gavin Brogden both had nine points in support.

C Hinds JV girls 16
The BA Lady Cougar JV used a high-pressure defense to knock the high-scoring Central Hinds JV Lady Cougars off track to pick up the 25-16 win. Makayla Martin led BA with nine points. Lucie Leblanc added six points to the scoring totals for the Lady Cougars.
Brookhaven Academy is back at home tonight when Natchez Cathedral visits for district play. JV girl’s action is set to begin at 4 p.m. followed by JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys.
