Funeral services for Amos Eugene Newman will be on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Hamburg Baptist Church in Hamburg at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hamburg. Bro. Larry Ritchie will be officiating the services with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be at Hamburg Baptist Church on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Newman, 79, of Meadville died on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville. He was born on Jan. 5, 1938, in Natchez, to Amos and Clara Eugenia Palmer Newman. He was a member of Hamburg Baptist Church; worked for many years as a self-employed scrap metal entrepreneur; and enjoyed family gatherings, tinkering with his cars, and loved his grandchildren dearly. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many. He enjoyed eating every afternoon with his friend Harold Wentworth.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Amos and Clara Eugenia Palmer Newman; sisters, Mary Lou, Peggy, Elizabeth and Betty Jo; and son-in-law, Donald Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Glennell Savoy Newman; daughters, Shirley Newman Thorpe and husband Eddie of Natchez, Betty Sue Newman Smith of Natchez, Debra Newman Stewart and husband Tracy of Brookhaven, Linda Newman Jones and husband Tommie of Brookhaven, Kathy Newman Lee and husband Keith of Brookhaven, Lisa Newman Suggs and husband Michael of Meadville, and Kimberly Newman Keyes and husband Jamie of Natchez; son, Allen Newman and wife Jodie of Natchez; sisters, Ida Mae, Nancy, Sandria, Marilyn, and Carolyn; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Jones, Andrew Jones, Eric Stewart, Jamie Thorpe, Jamie Keyes and Tom Wimberly.

Honorary pallbearers are Harold Wentworth, Barry Tabor and David Adams.
