Columbia tops Brookhaven Academy in hoops action

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars faced a tough challenge Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Columbia Academy in an important district matchup. The Cougars suffered a hard-fought setback by a score of 42-32 and the Lady Cougars couldn’t get on track falling to Columbia Academy 39-28.

Columbia Academy 42, BA Cougars 32

The BA Cougars (19-7) kept the game within striking distance throughout three quarters of play, but saw their hopes of stealing a win on the road slip away in the fourth quarter and dropped the contest 42-32. Dylan Winborne and Ethan Nations had nine points each to lead the Cougar scoring attack. Playmaker Luke Jackson dished out five assists in the contest for the Cougars. Chase Stringer led CA and all scorers with 14 points.

Columbia Academy girls 39, BA Lady Cougars 28

The BA Lady Cougars (16-9) couldn’t find their rhythm Saturday as they battled with the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Saturday. Trailing by five points at halftime, Columbia Academy added to their lead in the third quarter with a 12-4 run and the Lady Cougars couldn’t close the gap, falling by a final score of 39-28.  Kailyn Jordan led BA with eight points. Sophie Wilson added seven points to the Lady Cougar total. Gabby Sullivan led Columbia with 12 points.

BA JV girls 47, CA JV girls 18

The BA JV Lady Cougars suffocated Columbia Academy with high-pressure defense on their way to a 47-18 win Saturday afternoon. Juliana Crosby led the way for BA with 13 points. Maykla Martin and AB Warren posted eight and seven points, respectively, in support.

Columbia Academy JV boys 48, BA JV boys 17

The BA JV boys came up short against a very talented Columbia Academy JV team by a score of 48-17.  Britton Nelson and Gavin Brogden led BA with six points each.

In seventh grade girls actions, the BA Lady Cougars posted a well-played 25-15 win over CA.

Brookhaven Academy will return home tonight, facing off against Simpson Academy in crucial district contests. Seventh grade boys action is set to tip off at 3 p.m. followed by JV girls, JV boys then varsity girls and boys to wrap up the evening.
