Halfway through the third period, the Lady Jackets cut the Lady Hornets lead down to three points 31-28. Loyd Star extended their lead before the end of the third 40-31.

Behind their defense and some mental mistakes from Loyd Star, Bassfield was able to tie the game with five minutes left to play. The Lady Hornets regrouped and come away in the end by a final score of 54-48.

“The girls played a great game. The defense was able to slow them down a whole lot,” Loyd Star head coach Gene Britt said. “The girls did their job and beat an undefeated team. They need to learn to slow down some. We put Bassfield away at the end and they have a great team.”

The Lady Hornets were led by senior forward Mackenzie Smith with 19 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Yarborough was next in scoring with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior center Kaylea Smith chipped in with 10 points and three rebounds.

Bassfield was led by junior forward Azaria Magee with 20 points. Senior guard JaQuala scored 14 points as well for Bassfield.
