Funeral services for Willie Mae Carney Cothern, of Jayess, are Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Powells Grove Pentecostal Church with burial at the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Services in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Mrs. Cothern, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at her residence. She was born July 22, 1929. She was retired from Kellwood Factory as a seamstress and a member of Powells Grove Pentecostal Church where she was a devoted Sunday school teacher for nearly 20 years. She was a loving mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with them.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Homer Henry Carney and Corean Creel Carney; husband, Mitchell Lafay Cothern; sisters, Eva Boyd, Adelle Nichols, Ethel Roberts, Kathleen McCain and Era Jackson; brothers, Bill Carney, H.P. Carney, Earl Carney and Henry Carney.

Survivors are her daughters, Marion Thurman and husband Jimmy, Wanda Price and husband Everett, Sandra Gaskins and husband Terry; sister, Billie Reid; nine grandchildren, Dwight Thurman, Eric Thurman, Marty Thurman, Jason Price, Justin Price, Jamie Price, LaShay Smith, Derrick Rutland and Tesa Catoe; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
