Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol assisted Pike County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night to calm inmates at the Pike County jail during a riot, authorities said.

Five MHP unites went to the scene about 6:25 p.m., said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with the Highway Patrol.

“Those five along with other agencies went through the jail to contain the situation,” he said. “Nineteen inmates were contained at that time. There were no injuries while MHP was on the scene.”
