Wesson holds off West Lincoln 6-5

The Wesson Lady Cobras found a way in extra innings Friday night to take the win over West Lincoln by a score of 6-5. The win moves the Lady Cobras to 6-11 overall and drops West Lincoln to 5-5 overall.

West Lincoln took an early lead in the first inning with hits by Bailee Goodson, Makennah Redd and Skylar Hall that sent two runners home. Wesson crept back by adding a run each inning by stealing home and RBIs by catcher Catherine Wilson to take a 4-2 lead after five innings.

The Lady Bears came back in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.  In the top of the seventh, Katie McSweyn of Wesson turned a double play starting at third base to take the runner out and threw to first base to end the inning.

The Lady Bears played hard defense and kept the Lady Cobras from scoring to end the seventh inning still tied at 4-4.  In the eighth inning, West Lincoln was able to get one runner to home plate to take the lead. They were unable to stop the Cobras when Anna Claire Crow came to bat with bases loaded and hit it deep to right field to bring all runners home.  It only took two runs to win the game and the game ended with the Lady Cobra’s winning 6-5.

For the Lady Cobras, Amber Brinson pitched two strikeouts and two walks from the mound. Laynee Crapps finished the game with one strike out and one walk as well from the mound.

The top hitter for the Lady Cobras was Catherine Wilson with two RBIs with a double and two singles. Anna Claire Crow, whose hit brought the winning runner home, had two doubles and two RBIs. Harmoni Ashley and Shelbi Maxwell each had two singles and Amber Brinson and Nikki Guess both hit safely with a single.

Adi Paden had two strikeouts and Megan Gerald threw one strikeout from the mound for West Lincoln.  The top hitter for West Lincoln was Bailee Goodson with a double and a single. Makennah Redd hit a double and Gerald, Paden, Skylar Hall and Kelsey Freeman hit a single each.
