RAYMOND — The Copiah-Lincoln netters moved to 7-3 on the year Monday as the Wolves defeated Hinds 7-2 on the road.
“The guys came out and played with a high level of intensity and we ended up with a better team score than the first time we played them (6-3),” said head coach Blake Smith.
The Wolves picked up two wins on the doubles courts to start the day. Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pablo Pinilla rolled passed Daniel Yepez and John Dennis at No. 1 8-1. At No. 2 doubles Cory Alderman and Tripp Case lost a heart-breaking match to Hinds’ Chris Crapps and Matthew Burks 9-8 (7-4). Cole Moak and Hayes Thompson paired up at No. 3 doubles for the Wolves and grabbed a 9-7 victory over Ryan Wheeless and Jamal Holmes-Griffin.
In singles play, Osorio defeated Yepez 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1. Pinilla played at No. 2 for the Wolves and surpassed Crapps 7-5, 6-1. At No. 3, Thompson defeated Burks 6-4, 6-1. Case filled the No. 4 role for Co-Lin and defeated Holes-Griffin 6-3, 6-2. Alderman picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Dennis at No. 5, and Moak fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 to Hinds’ Arran Gallaway.
Lady Wolves drop to Hinds
The Lady Wolves suffered an 8-1 loss to the Hinds Lady Eagles Monday to move to 4-5 on the year. Co-Lin has just three more regular season matches scheduled for the 2017 season.
“We came up just short on a couple of different courts,” said Co-Lin head coach Blake Smith. “We lost some doubles courts in tiebreakers so we have to learn to close out matches in big situations.”
Maddie Ogden shined bright at No. 6 as she outlasted Brooke Myers 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 in a tough match.
“I was proud of Maddie,” said Smith. “She lost in a third set tiebreaker the first time we played Hinds, but was able to come back after a set down and got the win.”
