BHS tennis advances in playoffs

The Ole Brook tennis team started the MHSAA 5A state playoffs with a dominating victory recently over Wayne County, winning the overall match 7-0.

With the victory, the Panthers advance to the second round of the state playoffs.

The tone of the match was set from the opening boys’ singles match Thursday. Daniel Panzica of Brookhaven took down Isaac Hoffman of Wayne County in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

In the girls’ singles match, Sarah Grave Evans of Brookhaven defeated Carley Cochran of Wayne County in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

In the first boys’ doubles match, Will Moak and Dalton Fortado of Brookhaven took the victory over Chance Gossett and Jacob Gardner of Wayne County in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. In the second boys’ doubles match, Braxton Wallis and Michael Haynes Hutson of Brookhaven got the hard-fought victory over Logan Miller and Hayden Floyd of Wayne County in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

In the first girls’ doubles match, Maggie Massengill and Abbigail Jones of Brookhaven took down Alex Moore and Ashley Rainey of Wayne County in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. In the second girls’ doubles match, Alice Anne Walker and Lea Allen of Brookhaven defeated Sejuanye Spencer and Maggie Mason of Wayne County in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

In the mixed doubles match, Mackenzie Jackson and Cooper Patterson of Brookhaven got the victory over Madison McIlwain and Tyler Packer of Wayne County 6-1, 6-0.
