All proceeds from dinner at Magnolia Blues BBQ Company Wednesday will help prevent child abuse.
The restaurant at 505 W. Monticello St. is donating its proceeds from sales to the Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center, which serves victims of abuse and neglect from Lincoln, Pike, Amite, Walthall and Copiah counties.
The event, “Smokin’ Out Child Abuse,” will begin at 3 p.m. when the restaurant opens and run until closing about 11 p.m.
Owner Carl Craig’s wife, Anne Houston Craig, is a therapist with CAC who works in Brookhaven. He said this will be the first fundraiser he’s planned for CAC, but hopes to make it an annual event.
“We want to be able to give back to the community,” he said.
The CAC provides numerous services for victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect. They conduct forensic interviews, provide therapy for victims and their families and advocate for victims and their families. The CAC also provides educational opportunities for local schools.
Craig said CAC will be on hand with information about the organization.
It’s also open mic night at the restaurant.
