Co-Lin Wolves fall to East Central
The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves dropped a pair of games to the Warriors Wednesday night in two marathon games.
ECCC hung on late to win game one 11-9 and defeated the Wolves 16-8 in game two. The games move Co-Lin to 14-21 on the season and 8-10 in MACJC play. Co-Lin is on the road Saturday as the Wolves travel to Goodman to take on Holmes at 1 p.m.
East Central 11, Co-Lin 9
Co-Lin clawed back late in game one after falling behind by as many as seven runs in the sixth inning of game one. The rally fell just short as the Warriors snuck out an 11-9 win.
The Wolves came out firing in the first inning and plated three runs in the bottom of the first on an error, a single from Kody Smith, and a double from Austin O’Flynn.
ECCC got one back in the third after a fielder’s choice plated one run to cut Co-Lin’s lead to 3-1.
In the fourth, the Warriors took their first lead of the game, 5-3, with a grand slam from Nathan Roseberry. A two-run homer and a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth and a double in the sixth gave EC a 10-3 lead.
The Wolves fought back in the bottom of the seventh. An error scored Tyler McLeod who led off the inning with a walk. Smith roped a single to score Jaylyn Williams and O’Flynn brought home J.T. Wright with a single. Going into the final two innings the Warriors led 10-6.
A double in the eighth gave EC an 11-6 lead, but the Wolves got the run back in the bottom half. Wright punched a single to left field and plated Chandler Dillard to 11-7.
Matthew Mordecai doubled in the bottom of the ninth to score O’Flynn, and a pitch hit Williams with the bases loaded to cut the lead to just two, 11-9.
O’Flynn led the Wolves with three hits, while Kyle Whittington, Williams, and Smith collected two hits apiece. Smith and Wright both posted two RBIs.
Luke Yancey, Ty Alderman, Tyler Ladner, and Billy Cameron each collected multiple hits for East Central.
Brooks Warren earned the win for ECCC. He threw one inning, allowing three runs, two hits, and striking out one. Zach James took the loss for the Wolves. He went two innings, allowing six runs, six hits, and walking one.
East Central 16, Co-Lin 8
Action was back-and-forth early in game two, but two big innings in the second and fifth from the Warriors solidified the victory 16-8.
The Warriors are now 12-8 in league play and 26-12 overall with the two wins.
The Warriors plated seven runs in the top of the fifth after a string of singles and errors. The big inning gave the Warriors a 16-8 victory.
CJ Estave, Wright, Williams and Blake Estabrook recorded for the Wolves. Williams led the team with two RBIs after his two-run homer.
ECCC had 13 hits in the game. Cameron, Roseberry, and Brandon Clark each collected multiple hits for East Central. Cameron led the Warriors with three RBIs.
Christian Bellew earned the win for EC. He tossed one and one-third innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Blake Sigrest took the loss for the Wolves. He pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, four hits, and striking out one.
