Severe storms expected tonight

Severe thunderstorms are possible tonight throughout Southwest Mississippi.

Damaging wind gusts and hail up to quarter size are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The main threat of storms is between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Flash flooding is also expected in the area tonight due to heavy rainfall. Two to three inches of rainfall are expected over a short duration and this could result in flooding of streets and low lying areas, NWS said.

Windy conditions are expected in the wake of the thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach near 50 mph. These winds could bring down trees and make for hazardous travel in high profile vehicles, according to the weather service.
