Concerned about parking safety

To the Editor:

They are so common, yet so dangerous. I’m talking about four-door crew cab pickup trucks and extra long SUVs. Oh, they’re not dangerous for the drivers of these vehicles — just for the rest of us.

For instance, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, or any parking for that matter, if you’re parked next to them or even several spaces from them, there’s no way to back out safely. You can’t see around them until you’re half way out in the street, and then it just might be too late.

It’s extremely inconsiderate and discourteous of those four-door pickups and those oversized vehicles to put our right to a safe and convenient place to park over their own.

I happen to be a handicapped driver so I try to park in a handicapped space, but nine times out of 10, there’s a four-door truck next to me or on both sides of me. You might ask why these types of trucks are even in the handicapped spaces. I ask the same thing.

The solution is simple. All four-door crew cab trucks and long SUVs should only be allowed to park at the outer limits of the parking lot. That way all drivers and pedestrians are safe.
