Downtown Brookhaven made it all the way to the Top 10 for the America’s Main Street’s contest, but lost the title of top town to DeLand, Florida.
The contest, sponsored by Independent We Stand, announced in late May that Brookhaven had made the quarterfinals and then the Top 10 out of 242 nominees.
DeLand will receive the grand prize of $25,000 and shopping sprees and gift certificates worth $2,500.
“There has been an incredible outpouring of love for hundreds of Main Streets and Main Street organizations across the country in this year’s America’s Main Streets contest and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Independent We Stand co-founder Bill Brunelle. “We are in our second year of the contest and are so happy to see the passion and pride these nominees have for their Main Streets and the local businesses that keep them alive.”
Brookhaven was the only Mississippi city represented in the contest. Voting was through an online site.
