A shooting Sunday in West Lincoln left one man dead, authorities said.

A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from King’s Daughters Medical Center, according to Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Ricky Alford.

The man’s wife had extensive physical injuries, said Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing. She was taken to KDMC and later transferred to a hospital in Jackson, he said.

Deputies received the call at 12:40 a.m. Rushing said the man’s wife went to her neighbor’s house and said she’d been physically assaulted and that she’d shot her husband in their home.

Deputies arrived on the scene in the 1900 block of Quinn Road and found his body.

He’d been shot at least once with a handgun, Alford said.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, Rushing said.

A preliminary search of reports show no prior calls to that residence, he said.

Rushing said no charges have been filed at this time.

“Once the investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for presentation to a grand jury per normal procedure,” he said.

The woman’s name is being withheld at this time.
