Funeral services for Gary Hugh Martin, of Bogue Chitto, are today, July 18, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church in Summit. Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was held Monday, July 17, 2017, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin, 70, died Saturday, July 15, 2017. He retired as a supervisor for the Social Security Administration, as well as a volunteer for Summit Dixie Youth Baseball for over 30 years. He played football at Mississippi College and volunteered with the McComb Recreation Department. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Bogue Chitto School Booster Club.

He was recognized by the Social Security Administration with a Commissioner’s Citation, which is the SSA’s highest honor, for his work during Hurricane Katrina. He was a loving and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George William Martin Jr. and Omma Bell Morris; and sister, Lilliam Marie Wilson.

Survivors are his loving wife, Kathy Martin; sons, David Martin and wife Jackie, James Martin and wife Deanna, and Paul Martin and wife Alicia; grandchildren, Hunter, Samuel, Eli, Breawna, Gracie, Garrett, Ethon and Emily; as well as his brother, Tommy C. Morris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital at 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216.
