JACKSON (AP) — Authorities say a child was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street near a Jackson high school.

News outlets report the 12-year-old boy was hit near Forest Hill High School in Jackson on Monday evening. Jackson Police Commander Tyree Jones says the vehicle stayed on scene and the child was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Councilmen De’Keither Stamps and Aaron Banks were also at the scene of the accident. They said a crosswalk and a sidewalk are needed to prevent further accidents.
