LAUREL (AP) — A grand jury will decide whether it believes a south Mississippi woman killed herself or was killed by someone else.

Jones County District Attorney Anthony Buckley tells WDAM-TV that he will present evidence on Katherine Sinclair’s June 2 death to a September grand jury.

The 23-year-old woman died after a gunshot wound to the head in a parked car inside her boyfriend’s garage in an affluent Laurel subdivision. The boyfriend, Gregory Burroughs, told police that Sinclair shot herself. Sinclair’s mother, Madeline Herrington, questions whether her daughter committed suicide.

Police questioned Burroughs, but released him without charges three days later. Buckley says he decided to release Burroughs, saying Burroughs didn’t confess and no autopsy results were available.

Buckley says grand jurors could charge someone, refuse charges, or seek more investigation.
