Teenager arrested in Brooklyn Apartments shooting
A Brookhaven teenager was arrested in Copiah County Wednesday in connection with a shooting this weekend at Brooklyn Apartments that left a juvenile with minor injuries, authorities said.
Shawan Allen, 18, was picked up in Crystal Springs, Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins said. Investigators are looking for information regarding the whereabouts of Ladarius Johnson, 18, of Brookhaven, who is also a suspect in the shooting. Allen and Johnson are charged with aggravated assault and are accused of shooting into an occupied apartment at the building at 576 Halbert Heights Road, which sits on the opposite corner across from Faith Presbyterian Church.
The juvenile victim was treated for minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
A vehicle stolen in New Orleans was recovered at the location, Collins said. The vehicle had been driven by the victim. He will be charged with receiving stolen property, he said.
Another juvenile involved in the shooting surrendered to authorities Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the shooting or who has information on Johnson’s location is asked to call Brookhaven Police Department at 601-833-2424 or CrimeStoppers at 601-823-0150. Tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
