Brookhaven cross country wins big

The Brookhaven High School Cross Country team showed out Saturday afternoon at the Loyd Star Invitational.

The varsity and junior varsity teams for both the boys and girls won first place in the overall meet for the Panthers.

The Panthers had multiple runners finish in the top five in both the boys’ and girls’ varsity 5K meter run. The boys placed four of the top five runners in the 5K race and the same happened for the girls’ runners.

Andrew Knott finished first in the 5k race for Brookhaven with a time of 16:14.84. Adrian Lockwood of Brookhaven finished second in the 5K race with a time of 16:55.59 and Caleb McCreary of Brookhaven finished third with a time of 17:40.38.

The Panthers rounded out the top five with Jacob Britt finishing fifth with a time of 18:09.06.

Jonathan Mathis of West Lincoln finished fourth in the 5K race with a time of 17:50.32.

Owen Douglas of Enterprise finished seventh in the boys’ 5K race with a time of 18:38.32. Darius Arnold of Brookhaven finished eighth with a time of 18:39.19 and Roberto Galindo of Loyd Star finished 10th with a time of 19:07.72.

In the girls’ varsity 5K run, Miyah Miller of Brookhaven placed first with a winning time of 21:12.62. Three Brookhaven runners rounded out the top five with Bailey Pounds finishing third with a time of 21:50.94, Carley Craig finishing fourth with a time of 21:56.79 and Emmaline Wolf finishing fifth with a time of 22:13.20. 

Abby Thomas of Loyd Star placed sixth with a time of 22:19.41. Abby Roberts of Brookhaven finished seventh with a time of 22:20.16 and Jackie Madison of Brookhaven finished eighth with a time of 22:35.62 to round out local runners who finished in the top 10.

In the junior high boys’ two-mile race, Grayson Childress of Brookhaven finished in first with a time of 12:07.09. Jake Thompson, Collin Kellum and Sam Arnold of Brookhaven rounded out the top four finishes in the two-mile race.

Landon Burgess and Chase Spring of West Lincoln finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Trey Knott of Brookhaven rounded out the local runners in the top 10 by finishing eighth.

In the junior high girls’ two-mile race, Aubrey Britt of Loyd Star finished first with a time of 13:31.18. Ellie Slay and Quinn Boerner of Brookhaven finished second and third in the race, respectively. Charleigh Barras of Loyd Star finished fourth in the race. Karci Case and Kate LeBlanc of Brookhaven Academy finished fifth and sixth in the race, respectively. Kaytlin Humphreys of Brookhaven finished seventh and Shanna Moore of Loyd Star finished ninth to round out the local runners in the top 10.
