Man accused of tossing cocaine from SUV
GULFPORT (AP) — A man who said he was headed to Texas for Hurricane Harvey relief work is accused of tossing cocaine out the window during a Mississippi traffic stop.
The Sun Herald reports a police officer filed a sworn statement against 41-year-old Derrick D’Angelo Edwards of Gautier.
The statement says during a careless driving stop Thursday on Interstate 10 near Ocean Springs, officers saw someone toss nearly 5.6 pounds of cocaine from the sport utility vehicle Edwards was driving. Two packages were recovered.
Court records show Edwards previously served time in federal prison for conviction on drug charges. The judge found Edwards was responsible for selling about 132 pounds of cocaine.
