Smoothie King to open at Brookway Boulevard location

Smoothie King is coming to Brookhaven and it will be located on Brookway Boulevard.

The New Orleans-based company will open a location where Payless Shoe Source had been since 1992.

“We took a trip here over a year ago and we immediately noticed the for lease sign where the shoe store was located. We started asking questions and took it from there,” said Stephen Foley, development manager. “We really liked the location and the fact that Brookhaven is growing made it an intriguing place for us to expand.”

Foley said they are hoping to start construction in October since it usually takes three months to open a store. Their goal is to open near the end of the year or beginning of 2018.

“We want to take our time and make sure everything is done properly in order to ensure success,” Foley said. “It’s fun to bring Smoothie King to a city that hasn’t had it before. We’re going to offer a healthy/active meal replacement. It’s not a hamburger or sandwich. It’s something you can grab on the go and it’s a healthy option.”

Smoothie King’s headquarters is in New Orleans. The company has over 50 locations in the surrounding metro area. Bringing the chain to Brookhaven will bring a unique option to restaurant-goers.

“Our restaurant will serve a purpose and a need that Brookhaven doesn’t have,” Foley said. “What we really want to do is not just open up a place and serve a product, we want to be a part of the community and help Brookhaven grow. We also want to be that healthy option for those looking to make a difference in their eating habits.”

They’re in the process of hiring a manager who has ties to the Brookhaven-McComb area. Foley, who is from Meridian, but lives in Covington, Louisiana now, hopes to have applications for employment ready next month.

“Six years ago, I walked into your average store and applied for a job. I loved the product and what the brand stood for. I recently got an opportunity to go work for corporate and I’ve been extremely happy helping the company grow,” Foley said. “My point is that there is real opportunity with our company.”

Foley said it’s been a long process, but he believes it’s going to be a great fit.

“We’re excited to open and looking forward to it,” said Foley.
