Lawrence County softball tournament recaps

Lawrence County won two, Bogue Chitto won two and Brookhaven split two at the Lawrence County softball tournament Saturday.

Brookhaven 22, Franklin County 6

The Lady Panthers started the tournament with a game against Franklin County. The Lady Panthers took the lead early in the first. Katie Westbrook got the Lady Panthers on the board with a two-run homerun.

The Lady Panthers added to the lead in the second, scoring one run off  a RBI double by Kyja Willis. The Lady Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs — one off an error by the Lady Panthers and one off a RBI single.

The Lady Panthers added to their lead in the third, scoring two runs. Madi Miller brought in Kat Wallace, who  hit a triple, on a sacrifice ground-out. Jadeyn Fuller brought in a run on a RBI single.

The Lady Panthers added six more runs in the fourth inning. Sharquita Cook led off with a homerun. Willis followed with a homerun of her own. With the bases loaded, Rileigh Allen brought two runs in on a RBI single. Meg Foster scored a run on a sacrifice fly ball. The Lady Panthers scored their final run on a RBI single.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to score just one run in the fourth off a homer.

The Lady Panthers’ bats came to life in the fifth inning, when Brookhaven scored a total of 11 runs. The Lady Bulldogs attempted a comeback, but were able to score only three runs in the fifth.

Bogue Chitto 11, Franklin County 9

The Lady Bobcats took an early 3-0 lead in the first. With the bases loaded, Baileigh Jackson brought in a run on a RBI sacrifice fly. Reagan Kirkland followed with an RBI double.

The Lady Bulldogs brought themselves within two, at 3-1, in their half of the second off a RBI single.

The Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the third inning. Codi Leggett got the scoring started with a solo homerun. The Lady Cats scored off an error by the Lady Bulldogs. Alece Nettles scored the final run of the inning off a RBI single.

The Lady Cats added two more runs in the fourth inning. Both Stevie Montgomery and Codi Leggett hit a RBI single.

The Lady Bulldogs continued fighting to keep the game close, scoring four runs in their half of the fifth with a grand slam. The Lady Cats managed one run in their half of the fifth off a RBI single by Payton Barron.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to keep the game close, scoring three runs in the sixth. The Lady Cats responded with a two-run homerun.

Franklin County scored the final runs of the game, bringing in two runs, in the seventh inning. The Lady Cats were able to outlast the Lady Bulldogs, winning 11-9.

BHS 12, Warren Central 13

In a close game, the Lady Vikings of Warren Central were able to survive the BHS Lady Panthers in eight innings.

Warren Central struck first, scoring four runs in the first and three runs in the second. The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the third inning. Kat Wallace brought in the first run on a RBI double. Madi Miller followed with a RBI single. Allen finished the scoring on a RBI double.

The Lady Vikings scored four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Lady Panthers managed one run in the fifth inning off a RBI single by Miller. The Lady Panthers’ bats came to life in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs.

With the bases loaded, the Lady Panthers scored on a fielder’s choice. Sharquita Cook nailed a RBI single, followed by a RBI single by Kyja Willis. With the bases loaded and one out, Wallace hit a RBI single. Miller followed with a three-run RBI double. Katie Westbrook brought in the final run on a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Bulldogs won the game in the eighth inning off a bases loaded walk.
