Brookhaven softball blows past West Lincoln

Brookhaven’s bats were hot early in a 19-9 win over West Lincoln Monday.

The Lady Panthers scored on a homerun by Kat Wallace, a double by Rileigh Allen, a single by Meg Foster, a homerun by Sierra Henderson and a double by Layla Woodall in the first inning. Brookhaven totaled 21 hits in the game to West Lincoln’s 15.

Allen pitched five innings, striking out two and walking one. She allowed 15 hits. Morgan Newman pitched for the Lady Bears. She gave up 19 runs on 21 hits over four innings, striking out three.

West Lincoln scored five runs in the third inning, and were led by Camryn Summerall, Maddox Redd, Madison McNatt and Adi Paden, all driving in runs in the inning.

Brookhaven hit four homers — Wallace and Henderson had homers in the first inning. Allen had a homer in the second inning. Charquita Cook had a four bagger in the fourth.

The Lady Bears totaled three homers on the day. Newman put one out in the first inning, Kelsi Freeman had a long ball in the fourth inning and Micah Powell hit a homer in the fifth.

For Brookhaven, Foster, Allen, Cook, Henderson, Wallace, Kyja Willis, Katy Westbrook, and Woodall all managed multiple hits for Brookhaven.

Playoffs start Saturday with Brookhaven hosting Meridian, according to the Mississippi High School Athletics Association schedule.
